Now is the time to act.
There is a lot of mixed messaging about “sustainability” in the consumer products world. At Hip, we want to bring clarity to the idea of sustainability in materials and manufacturing.
Our products and manufacturing methods are not 100% sustainable. However, by using materials such as recycled ocean bound plastic and wheat straw, and bamboo fiber, we want to push our company and industry a step closer.
By using these materials, we plan to drive awareness and demand for the collection of waste littering our oceans. We aim to change the perception of plastic within the consumer and housewares industries as a single use item. Instead of producing new plastic from fossil fuels, let’s give the billions of pounds of plastic that already exist in the world a second life. More than 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently litter the oceans, that’s 150 million tons.
Up to 8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans every year. Plastic production and consumption is predicted to double over the next 10 years. If this continues, by 2050, the plastic in the ocean will outweigh fish.
Please support us on this journey.
